Old Boys games not BokSmart
13 June 2012

Dr. Wayne Viljoen (CEO of BokSmart) has confirmed that all U19 school teams playing against their Old Boys XV or similarly named teams are illegal and are no longer allowed to take place.

"Despite the long standing traditions of many schools across the country these games will have to be confined to the past. It is not the intention of the legislation to stop these Old Boys' gatherings revolving around rugby, the challenge going forward is to be innovative about other alternatives."

"To this end we (BokSmart) can advise that many other schools in similar positions are exploring touch rugby as an alternative."

Please refer to the attached legislation dealing with under age rugby and is designed to eliminate the risk of catastrophic injuries to the under 19 age group.
